Imagine watching Star Trek on a five- story screen, in 3D, with innovative sound and projection quality. Imagine feeling like every bit of the action is happening right around you, instead of you being a bystander. By the end of the summer, this dream will become a reality for Bryan-College Station residents. The Premiere Cinema in Bryan will be getting an IMAX theatre which is expected to be completed in late July or early August.
The Premiere theatre will add itself to a small list of cities in Texas that have this 3D experience. Premiere will also own the franchise for IMAX, which means that it can be the only IMAX in the Bryan-College Station area. The new IMAX screen has cutting-edge features like the exceptional sound, projection and 3D technology. The IMAX theatre wants to immerse guests into the action with a five-story screen and 350 leather reclining seats. Premiere will be taking two of their existing theatres and turning it into a massive auditorium. This multi-million dollar renovation doesn’t stop there because Premiere Cinema will also be adding a Starbucks, an in-auditorium dining option through their restaurant, a fireside wine and beer bar, and Backstage Bistro.
Premiere Vice President Joel Davis said “The bar has definitely been raised for movie-going. “IMAX changes people’s movie habits in a market, they’ll easily drive 30 miles or more just to see their movies in IMAX.”
The IMAX in Bryan will be the only one in a 90 mile radius. City officials are hoping that this will attract schools, families, and students from around the Central Texas area. This new addition to the Bryan-College Station area will be one more thing that the area has to offer to new residents. When people are moving to a new area they want to see what the town can offer them to increase their quality of life. When adding something like an IMAX this will only help the cities of Bryan-College Station to attract more residents.
