Moving into my first rental felt a little awkward and out of place. The belongings were mine but in a strange place. I found in my transition a few things that made my new house feel more like a home. Here are some ideas for you:
Bedding: If you don't bring your original bedding make sure to make your new bed the perfect space. My perfect bed is a soft bottom sheet with the thickest duvet cover and a fuzzy blanket. If you have roommates then your bed is really the only space you don't share, so really make it yours!
Candles: What is the first thing you notice when you walk in the door of someone's home? The smell. Have inviting candles or Glade Plug-Ins throughout your home. French Vanilla and Ocean Mist are my top favorites. They really help cover up my dog's odor ;)
Pictures: When family is far away its important to have the everyday visual of them even when you can't physically see them. Fill your home with photos of those that are dear to you. Seeing my niece's custom artwork hanging on my fridge makes me smile!
Decorating: It is important to decorate your home even being just a rental. Do it not for your home but for your self. No matter how long of time you have in your rental make it your home. Remember decorating doesn't have to be expensive.
Baking: Find activities to spend time at home, like baking some cookies. Break in that new oven! If you're like me, then you need all the practice you can get!
Mini House Party: Invite some friends over for a little house warming party. Have a dinner or just a casual Saturday watching the game. This will give you a boost to get your home in order!
