Are you considering buying a home? In a month? In six months? Ever? In my last blog post: "Consider your timeline" we talked about the timeline for the home purchase process. The first thing you should do is check your credit report (if you haven’t already). Most of us will have to work with a lender for at least one home purchase in our lifetime and when we do we should be aware of what our credit score is and how it can help or hurt our efforts to purchase the home we want. There are several credit reporting agencies that lenders use: Equifax, Transunion and Experian. You can pull your credit report from each of these agencies once per year for FREE - and you really should.

I have clients who are asking me what is happening to the Southside and Eastside of campus, and there is much I can say.  Or, I can say 3 words…. location, location, location. Over the years, students, former students, professionals, and families have come to realize we have some quaint, special areas to live in located in the most sought after locations in town.

The Southside and Eastside of campus is where our history lies. There are old historic homes and new large homes built where tiny ones once stood.  I decided to look at some of these small home lots to see what has happened to the property values in Southside.  For these purposes, I was looking at a few homes that sold over the past few years that were similar in size and location.

I am always working on the opposite side of the deal where I represent the buyer or seller. To actually be the buyer is completely different. There are so many emotions involved. The excitement of looking at houses, the nervousness from finding out if your offer was accepted, the stress of trying to get a loan in place and your house closed, and the relief and accomplishment you feel when you hold your keys for the very first time. It is an emotional rollercoaster, but well worth the ride.

As a Realtor, buying your first

Not all real estate practitioners are Realtors. The term Realtor is a registered trademark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Realtors subscribe to NARs strict Code of Ethics, so the next time someone you know is considering not using a Realtor, make sure they know that Realtors do a lot more than what meets the eye.

Here are five reasons why it is beneficial to have a Realtor on your side:

1. Realtors are guides and advice givers. When buying or selling real estate, there are a lot more documents out there than you think. Disclosure forms, inspection reports, mortgage documents, insurance policies, deeds and multi-page settlement statements. Without knowledge of these

In this day and age with lending requirements becoming very difficult to obtain financing, it is good to know all of your financing options when you are about to make a real estate purchase. There are so many different products out there for you to personalize to your specific needs, or create value in the purchase. Whether you are a first time home buyer, investor, builder, veteran, etc., you can find a way to make the purchase happen. Right now we are at record lows with interest rates and purchase prices and honestly, we will never see this great combination in our lifetimes again.

Another nugget I would like for you to remember is when you are shopping the lender market, meet with three different lending sectors. Well Terrence, what does that mean?
