USA Today’s coach’s poll ranked Texas A&M No. 6 for the start of the 2013 season. This is the highest ranking the Aggies have received since 1995. Texas A&M is expected to do well again this season because they have 11 returning starters including the famed quarterback Johnny Manziel and others like offensive tackle Jake Matthews.

Aside from taking the Aggies to a national championship this season, Manziel is also trying to become the first repeat winner of the Manning award. The Manning Award was created in order to honor the accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. This award is the only quarterback award that includes bowl performances from the candidates in its balloting.

“We have had the opportunity to recognize nine outstanding quarterbacks with the Manning Award,” said Paul Hoolahan, Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO. “It is truly a great honor for the Allstate Sugar Bowl to sponsor this award and we wish the best of luck to every quarterback and team in the country for another great year of college football.”

Football is not the only Texas A&M sport getting national recognition. The Capital One Cup is awarded annually to each of the best men's and women's Division I college athletics programs in the country. Capital one ranked Texas A&M No. 2 in the men’s cup division. Texas A&M tied for No. 2 with Indiana with 88 points each.

Texas A&M sports drive the economy and atmosphere around College Station. Aggies are extremely loyal to their teams and will sell out the stadiums every game day. College Station is like a small town in a way, where every Saturday morning you can guarantee that everyone in town will be watching the Aggies play. “Few cities are as tied to a university as College Station is to Texas A&M,” said Livability.com’s Matt Carmichael. “Locals refer to the city and surrounding region as Aggieland due to the loyal support residents show the university, and students gladly give back to the community by participating in service projects such as the Big Event, which began in 1982 and is now the largest one-day student-run service project in the nation,”  Carmichael said.
