Eastage, Texas Area & Community
Eastgate is a residential community in the town of College Station, Texas. Eastgate gets its name due to the fact that it sits just across from the eastern entrance to Texas A&M University.
Eastgate’s boundaries are approximately University Drive to the northwest, Texas Avenue to the southwest, the Earl Rudder Freeway (Route 6) to the northeast, and Dominik Drive to the southeast.
Neighborhoods within Eastgate include College Vistas, Lincoln Place, College Hills Woodlands, Post Oak Forest, Glenhaven, and Carter’s Grove.

Geographically, Eastgate falls within the Brazos Valley in Texas’ Post Oak Savannah biome. This region is transitional as well, interspersed with and nearby to blackland prairies, piney woods, and coastal plains.
Eastgate reflects these natural features in its parks and greenspaces which are well covered with a canopy of post aks and other trees.
As you might guess, Eastgate is a popular place to live for those who study and work at Texas A&M. However, this isn’t just due to the proximity of Eastgate to the famed educational institutions, as Eastgate has many attractions and features of its own.
To begin with, residents of Eastgate enjoy a host of commercial and entertainment spaces along University Drive and Texas Avenue. These two routes are flanked on either side by numerous businesses, shopping centers, and restaurants serving burgers, Tex-mex cuisine, BBQ, and more.
At the northern edge of Eastgate is Gateway Station, a large shopping mall with a Home Depot, Michaels, City Bank, and at least 12 locations for getting takeout or a sit-down meal.
For those looking for outdoor relaxation or activities, there are a number of parks within Eastgate. Thomas and Mabel Clare Thomas Parks cover most of the width of southern Eastgate, featuring pavilions, tennis and basketball courts, and playgrounds for younger kids. In central Eastgate there are spaces like Schob Nature Preserve, Kiwanis Trail, and Parkway Park, with impressive stands of trees to enjoy. And finally, at the northern end of Eastgate there is Richard Carter Park, with a pavilion, greenspaces, gardens, and trails, great for a relaxing walk or picnic.
While most well known for its proximity to a university, younger students within Eastgate can attend College Hills Elementary School next to the Kiwanis Trail.
